What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium screws placed into the jawbone which act as an ultra-secure root for your new artificial tooth or teeth. The implant is placed in your jawbone beneath the gums and a dental crown is then affixed to the new “root”. Using the latest techniques and tools at our disposal, today’s dental implants look and feel just like natural teeth. We can even custom-match the color of the crown to ensure it’s nearly indistinguishable from the rest of your mouth. Implants can work on their own to support a single tooth or can be joined to another dental device, like a denture, to bring together multiple teeth for a healthy smile.

The best teeth replacement option for missing teeth is most often dental implants. Dental implants are extremely similar to your natural teeth, and once the implant procedure is finished you’ll be able to eat, drink, talk and smile just like normal. If you are seeking ways to replace missing teeth in Walnut Creek, CA ask us about dental implants.

All-On-4 Implant Supported Dentures

At Horizons Dental, we are proud to feature the revolutionary All-On-4 dental implant technology. All-On-4 lets us replace your entire upper or lower row of teeth with just four titanium screws. That keeps the cost down for you and allows us to replace your teeth without needing a post for each tooth, something common in other dental implant procedures.

All-On-4 utilizes two titanium screws at the front of your mouth, pointed straight up-and-down, along with two posterior screws tilted backwards at an up to 45-degree angle. This lets us place a full-arch prosthesis (dentures) on the same day as the implants are installed. This results in a huge time savings and has our patients speaking and smiling normally quicker than those who undergo alternate treatments.

Plus, titanium is uniquely able to fuse directly with the bone, ensuring a stronger implant that doesn’t have any of the shifting or unsettled feelings that come with traditional dentures. And as an added benefit, the bone fusion strengthens the jaw bone and fends off future bone loss.

Single-Tooth Replacement, Multiple Tooth Replacement & Full Mouth Rejuvenation

Dental implants don’t just have to be for the entire mouth, however. If you’re missing a single tooth, Dr. Villaseñor may recommend a single implant. It’s a healthier way to replace a tooth because unlike a dental bridge the surrounding teeth do not need to be ground down to fit the bridge in between and bone loss won’t be lost in that area. With an implant, the root is replaced by titanium and the custom-fitted crown slides right on top of the new artificial root and nestles comfortably into place.

The same can be done for multiple teeth, but candidates for dental implants need to have an otherwise healthy mouth. For an implant to be placed successfully, there needs to be an adequate amount of healthy bone for the implant to fuse to. If necessary, we may need to build up the bone with a bone graft to replace what deterioration has taken place. Now, the new implant not only won’t cause the surrounding teeth to be damaged, it will also help preserve what bone strength currently exists.
