How Does Invisalign Work?

The custom aligners slowly and gently move your teeth into position, shifting them up, down or side-to-side, depending on what you need. The aligners can even rotate teeth if that’s necessary. When undergoing Invisalign treatment in Walnut Creek, CA, you’ll get a set of aligners that need to be changed frequently, typically every two weeks. Each aligner moves your teeth only slightly, and as you move through the process the aligners gradually become straighter and straighter. Walnut Creek Invisalign dentist, Dr. Villaseñor, will want to see you every six weeks or so while you’re using Invisalign. This is to check up on the progress of your teeth and make any small adjustments necessary.

Invisalign aligners must be worn 22 hours per day to get the best results, only being removed when you’re eating, brushing or flossing.

Why Should I Get Invisalign?

There are benefits to straight teeth beyond just the cosmetic. Misaligned teeth can make it more difficult, or impossible, to reach all the spaces between your teeth when brushing and flossing. That can lead to plaque build-up and, in turn, tooth decay or gum disease. A misaligned bite can also cause irregular wear on the biting and chewing surfaces of your teeth and can lead to jaw pain.
